Now Available at Bright Horizons – Art Therapy

We are pleased to announce the newest member to our Bright Horizons team. Kandra Orr is a Registered Art Therapist and will be providing both individual and group Art Therapy. Art Therapy is a wonderful way to work on self-expression, emotional processing, and learning new skills to deal with life’s challenges; regardless of your level of artistic ability! Art Therapy is an excellent treatment for children, adolescents and adult dealing with stress, depression, anxiety, trauma, chronic illness, brain injury and many other conditions.

Can Art Be Medicine?
Art Therapy has successfully helped people with anxiety, depression, PTSD, chronic pain, cancer, high blood pressure, bipolar disorder, and other serious health conditions.

  • Art stimulates the imagination; you can enhance creative skills you already possess. If you are left-brained (analytical), creating art will stimulate your creativity and imagination.
  • Art boosts self-esteem and provides a sense of accomplishment.
  • Art reduces stress and provides a relaxing and rewarding hobby that can lower your stress levels and lead to overall improvement in well-being.
  • Art enhances cognitive abilities, memory, and even serious brain conditions.

The creative process involved in artistic expression helps people to resolve problems, develop interpersonal skills, manage behavior, increase self-esteem and self-awareness and achieve insight. Now drawing ability is needed.

Bright Horizons is now offering individual and group sessions with a Registered Art Therapist as an adjunct to your current treatment or as a stand-alone service. It is covered by most insurance companies. Please call our office at 540-602-7615 if you are interested in exploring this option.
